12th ITT Masters Tournament

For the third year running the vagaries of the British weather attempted to disrupt the Masters Tournament – and once again, it failed! This year we were ‘blessed’ with only one shower as the storm clouds rumbled around the picturesque surroundings of Burhill. In fact, for the first time in three years, we even saw some sunshine!

The shower neither dampened the spirits of the golfing protagonists nor slowed down the greens, which were lighting fast! The course, as always, was in stunning condition and the lunch was a delight. Once again Burhill made ITT feel most welcome.

In the Tournament itself, the team from P&O Ferries were attempting to win the trophy for the third consecutive year. Their valiant attempt was severely hampered not only by the fact that one of their team had to withdraw at the last minute, but also because Ray Brunton (last year’s Masters Champion) played with a broken finger – they were not going to give up without a fight!

But it was not to be and Team Teletext, expertly captained by Matt Cheevers, won the Team Trophy by some considerable margin.

P&O Ferries took their revenge though in the Individual Trophy with Paul Stones beating off a strong challenge from Angus Chisholm to win with 37 points.

The tuition class again proved popular, particularly with the ladies – but it was slightly disappointing that only two women played in the tournament itself. We’d really like stronger representation from the ladies next year!

Special thanks for another wonderful day must go to the tournament sponsor, Tourism Ireland, not only for the golf but also for the much needed on-course refreshments at the gazebo!

We’re already in discussions with Burhill to secure a similar date for 2009.
