10TH ITT GOLF MASTERS 2006

DATE: Monday 22 May 2006

VENUE: Burhill Golf Club, Walton on Thames, Surrey

Whoever said SE England had a major water crisis was obviously not at Burhill for the 10th ITT Golf Masters!

Despite being one of the worst days of the ‘much anticipated’ English Summer, spirits were in no way dampened as 64 golfers braved the elements in the Surrey countryside. Even the early atrocious conditions didn’t upset anyone’s enjoyment of the Burhill experience.

The conditions did affect the scoring, but it wasn’t just the weather that contributed to that! The course was in stunning condition and playing off the Championship Tees (sorry!), proved a long and challenging test, whatever your handicap. The competition was nonetheless very competitive and like last year, in the end, it came ‘right down to the wire’!

In the Team Competition only three points separated the top four teams. The winners were the team from P&O Ferries (74 points)

The Individual Masters Trophy was also a very closely fought battle and was decided by a single point! Giles Harper (33 points) just edged out Neil Conley (32 points) into a very creditable second place.

ITT is a strong supporter of DG&G’s initiative to encourage more of the ‘fairer’ sex onto the golf course. Once again, the Tuition Class proved a big success, with ten women and 2 men thoroughly enjoying the tips passed on by Ian, Burhill’s resident Senior PGA Pro.

As always, events such as this couldn’t take place without the support of the sponsors, so a big thank you from ITT to all of the individual hole and prize sponsors. Thanks also go to the Hilton Group for offering a very special package for those wishing to stay at the nearby Hilton Cobham. Having the facility of being able to stay ‘down the road’ was a huge bonus.

Thanks also, as always, go to ‘the’ travel industry photographer, Steve Dunlop, who despite the elements, managed to keep his lens dry—but like the rest of us, that was probably the only thing that he managed to keep dry!

Finally, we must give a very special mention to the team at Burhill Golf Club for making us feel so welcome at one of England’s finest golf clubs. 2007 is a very special milestone for the Club as it will be their Centenary year.
Their official celebration takes place during May and, despite the huge demand to play the course at the time of their centenary, we are delighted to announce that ITT has been invited back on Monday May 21st. So put that date in your diary NOW!

We’re already looking forward to ‘taking on’ the Old Course again - apparently the long-range weather forecast is good!

The ITT Golf Day is not only about golf, it is also a great opportunity to get together with fellow members and industry colleagues to mix ‘business with pleasure’. We’re looking forward to seeing you all at Burhill next May.
