the ITT HospitalitY & Catering Student of the Year 2013

It is always great to see how our past award winners are getting on and we look forward to watching their progress.

Earlier in 2014, we caught up with one of last year’s student winners, Francesca Grant, who has already had a stint working with one of the world’s leading chefs and is now forging her career in events.

“Previous to receiving the ITT Hospitality Student of the Year award I had been head hunted by one of the chefs working for the Roux brothers at Henley Regatta.  He then pointed out my efforts and passion to Michelle Roux Jr who went on to offer me a place as a Commis chef in his 2 Michelin star restaurant, Le Gavroche.

It was in the same month of receiving this offer that I heard the news that I had won the award.  My family and I were thrilled to hear that all my efforts had been recognised and that Ii would have the opportunity to visit the House of Commons. The night of the awards was one of the proudest nights of my life and it was an honour to meet so many inspirational people within the industry.

With my new found confidence for the acknowledgment I had received I went on to move to London to take up the offer that Le Gavroche had made me.  I later came to realise that my passion did not lie within restaurant work but instead within events. So I chose to pursue this and now work in one of the largest event spaces in London - The Brewery.”
