Who’d have thought a Nottingham Forest football manager would have had such a profound influence on the travel industry! But at the February Odyssey Supper, John Hays cited Brian Clough as his greatest inspiration on both a business and personal level.
John’s travel career began in 1980. He had no industry experience and at that point his business empire consisted of a small desk at the back of his mum’s childrenswear shop. Influenced by a motivational speech made by his controversial and outspoken ‘mentor’, he went on to develop Hays Travel into ABTA’s largest independently owned travel agency and one of the Sunday Times’s ‘100 Best Companies to Work For in the UK’ in 2006.
