For the second year running the elements conspired to spoil the Masters Golf Tournament. And once again… they failed!!

Despite the somewhat damp conditions in Surrey, another ‘full house’ enjoyed their day at Burhill. As befitting a golf club celebrating it’s centenary, the course was in exceptional condition.

ITT would like to thank Tom Higgins and Tourism Ireland for their generous support  this year of the Masters.

Fittingly, Burhill has been looked after in that 100 year history by the Guinness family, so where better to enjoy the ‘dark stuff’ and good old Irish hospitality? So everyone did – long after the last putt had been sunk!!

On the course, the team trophy was retained by the ‘regulars’ from P&O Ferries by quite a considerable margin – they were obviously used to the watery conditions!!

It was beginning to look like ‘Groundhog Day’ when Lynne Brewin retained her grip on the Ladies Prize.

The battle for the Masters Championship was a much closer affair with only five points separating the top 11 players. Ray Brunton – Champion in 2000 – eventually edging out Neil Conley by a single point!

Once again the three-hour tuition class proved a big success and Hilton’s idea of bringing umbrellas turned out to be an inspired one!

Despite the conditions, it turned out to be another successful Masters Tournament and, as well as Tourism Ireland, ITT would like to express their thanks to all of the hole sponsors supporting the event and to the team at Burhill for their hospitality.

Once again, special thanks to our intrepid photographer, Steve Dunlop, for braving the elements (and low flying golf balls) out on the course!
